Our theme verse is Haggai 1:8.

"Go up to the mountain, and bring wood, and build the house; and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified, saith the LORD."

Haggai 1:8

Here we find three key points for Going Up to the Mountain.

1.    You must BEGIN!

No great work is ever accomplished by watching others. No great work is ever accomplished by sitting around talking about it. I sat in on a community organization whose purpose was to combat teenage drug use. I finally quit because all the group wanted to do was sit and talk about it.

When it comes to the church, many of us know what needs to be done. Many people are fond of talking about what needs to be done. Many individuals are well aware of what they need in their personal lives. Knowledge is certainly a great tool. However, the successful trasform their knowledge into action.

We must take the first step before we ever consider getting to the top of the mountain.

2.    You must BRING something!

They were commanded to bring supplies. In their case it was the wood that was necessary. Regardless of what mountain you are climbing, you have to bring something with you.

In personal struggles, you have to bring your own ambition. Sometimes we get the idea that because our salvation was free, every bit of spiritual growth is free as well. It doesn't work that way. We must bring something to the table. We have to bring our time. We have to bring the Word of God. We have to bring faithfulness and obedience. We can't just sit back and whine. We have to bring determination and diligence.

When it comes to the church, we must bring our tithes and offerings. God's plan for financing the church is by using His people. He blesses us financially so that we must invest in His work. As we step out by faith and give the tithe, God is faithful to supply our personal needs. We have never given an offering until we go beyond the tithe (10%). But according to Malachi 3:10, we will never be able to out give God.

If we are going to reach the Mountain Top, we must bring something with us.

3.    You must BUILD!

Finally, we must build. This means that we must apply some "elbow grease." There is work involved. The work of the church is never accomplished by one man. In fact, even a handful of men and women cannot accomplish what needs to take place. Every member is a minister. Every saint is a servant. We must all work together so that Christ might build His church through us.

"Edify" is a biblical word that means to build. As we work together and build up one another, we are accomplishing God's purpose for us. As we reach out and build lives through soul-winning and biblical discipleship we are building the Lord's house.

Let us take the challenge from Haggai to Go Up to the Mountain. When we reach the top, we will find a breath taking view accompanied by the satisfaction that we have accomplished the Lord's work.
